How I used my success formula to make a pivot in my life
Aligned success begins with self-awareness.
When you take the time to do the work to get to know yourself, you empower yourself with information that you can use to make decisions that will drastically increase your likelihood of success.
This information about yourself is the basis of your unique “success formula”.
Yesterday, I used my success formula to make a pivot in my life.
Having a fitness routine has always been an important part of my life. I have tried different styles of movement over the years driven by different motivations.
Yoga and HITT have been a consistent part of my routine for several years. But I’ve always been drawn to building more strength. So last year I decided to join a gym. Although I went “consistently,” I felt like I wasn’t making the progress I was hoping to make.
A couple of weeks ago. I decided to finally use the two-week pass @purefit I bought right when it opened, before the pandemic. Pure Fit is a completely different gym from what I’ve been used to, but I was reluctant to go because I felt I wasn’t strong enough.
I signed up for the first class and loved it! And it got me thinking, “What about this experience is so much better than my experience at a gym in the past?”
Here’s what I came up with …
▫️It’s structured around a class schedule
▫️The workouts have been pre-planned by a trainer, and I just need to show up and do the work
▫️There is a community of people doing the same program and working towards a shared goal
▫️There is a trainer who corrects form, pushes your comfort zone and celebrates your progress
▫️The program is based on a five-week cycle so you can track progress and see tangible results
And then I thought about my success formula and asked myself, “What does this mean about me?”
▪️When I have something on my calendar, my discipline is unshakable
▪️When there is a predetermined structure laid out for me to work within, I thrive
▪️When there are other people working towards a unified goal, I’m motivated to work through the challenging parts
▪️When there is someone I am loosely accountable to, I feel supported and in turn, show up as my best self
▪️When there are well-defined metrics, my progress becomes tangible, and my results increase significantly
I had no intention of signing up for a membership. This was supposed to be just two weeks. I was already going to a gym, so why would I spend more money to do the same thing?
What I learned on the first day was this wasn’t the same at all. This style of gym aligned with my success formula, and the style I was used to didn’t (no wonder I haven't been experiencing results).
Knowing this made my decision so easy. My strong self-awareness around my values, interests, strengths and way of operating guided me toward making a pivot. And although I’m only a couple of weeks in, I’m confident I will not only see the progress and results I’m looking for but also enjoy the journey toward reaching those goals.
It all starts with self-awareness. When you know your unique success formula, making aligned decisions to support your success becomes a lot easier.
